Pop icons BTS have officially returned with their fifth studio album ARIRANG, marking a long-awaited reunion nearly four years in the making.

With ARIRANG, the global supergroup delivers a deeply personal yet universally resonant body of work — one that reflects their journey, identity, and enduring connection with fans worldwide.

Rooted in heritage, the album draws inspiration from the traditional Korean folk song 'Arirang', known for its themes of longing, resilience, and distance. By reinterpreting these emotions across 14 tracks, BTS expand its meaning into a modern narrative that transcends borders — reaffirming their identity as artists born in Korea, playing for the world.

The album opens with high-energy anthems like ‘Body to Body’ and ‘Hooligan’, celebrating their return and legacy, before moving into introspective cuts such as ‘Aliens’, ‘FYA’, and ‘2.0’. At its core sits the interlude ‘No. 29’, featuring the tolling of the Divine Bell of King Seongdeok, grounding the album in cultural symbolism.

From there, ARIRANG unfolds into an emotional spectrum — from perseverance in ‘SWIM’, to reflection in ‘Merry Go Round’ and ‘NORMAL’, and ultimately, a sense of freedom and devotion in tracks like ‘Like Animals’, ‘One More Night’, ‘Please’, and ‘Into the Sun’.

Leading the release is ‘SWIM’, a reflective anthem about moving forward through life’s uncertainties. Rather than resisting the tides, the track embraces growth at one’s own pace — a message anchored by RM’s songwriting.

Speaking on the single, BTS shared: “A song that mirrors life itself… I hope it becomes a source of strength as people go through their lives.”

The music video for ‘SWIM’ brings this sentiment to life through cinematic storytelling. Set aboard a ship navigating an endless sea, the visual follows a woman’s journey through doubt and healing, with the members appearing as quiet sources of support. Filmed in Lisbon, the video stars actress Lili Reinhart and is directed by Tanu Muino, blending real-world sets with elevated production design.

Musically, ARIRANG also reflects BTS’ hands-on creative process. RM contributed to nearly every track, while SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook each played key roles across the album. The project is further elevated by a global roster of collaborators including Diplo, Ryan Tedder, Mike WiLL Made-It, Flume, Kevin Parker, El Guincho, and JPEGMAFIA.

To celebrate the release, BTS will host BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG on 21 March, streaming globally via Netflix.
