Buena Vista Social Club, the legendary Cuban members' club that spawned a band of the same name, has a new documentary out now. A follow up to 1999's Buena Vista Social Club, the new film is titled Buena Vista Social Club: Adios, and it takes place 16 years after the first documentary.
Buena Vista Social Club: Adios follows the five original members of the band as they blaze through their farewell tour, culminating in a final show in their hometown of Havana, Cuba. The documentary chronicles the tour, the highs and lows of their career, their rotating roster of accomplished musicians and their many performances worldwide — the final performance of the band in Singapore, under the name Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club, was in 2016.
The documentary, directed by Lucy Walker, has received rave reviews, with the New York Times stating: “Buena Vista Social Club: Adios, is both an exemplary sequel and a vital, informative companion piece."
Buena Vista Social Club: Adios is now screening at Shaw Lido for a limited period. Get your tickets here.
