Cait Lin 凱琳 truly is playing the game, and winning with her single 'PLAY THE GAME' that presents a cocktail of perfectly blended genres to create a medley infused with Alt-R&B, indie soul, 2000s nostalgia. 'PLAY THE GAME' is part of six songs to be featured on the tracklist of her upcoming EP Gradients.
The hypnotic track tells the story of Cait Lin navigating biculturalism, the emotional escape provided by indulging in nightlife, and the tension between preserving the delicate balance between perfection and inner chaos.
The addictive track was co-written with Australian guitarist Cohen Bargas and produced by ARIA-nominated Kojo 'Citizen Kay' Ansah—diving deeper through the music and highlighting the meaning of the song.
The official visualiser pairs perfectly with the overall vibe of the song as it was brought to life at Liliverse, one of Taipei’s most innovative underground theatre collectives. The air of mystery that lays dormant in the track is rid of any subtlety in the visualiser as the immersive stage production, performances by over 20 professional dancers, drag artists, and aerial performers breathe life into the layered depth and seductive nature of the song by creating a dreamlike nightlife scene.
'PLAY THE GAME' is a small teaser to ease fans into the wave of boldness and confidence that Cait Lin's upcoming EP Gradients has been steeped in. Out on 14 October, the record sees experimentation across genres—solidifying Cait Lin's identity as a versatile artist in any genre through lush, downtempo arrangements and refined vocals. In addition to exploring music styles, the EP stays true to the theme of internal exploration, covering topics of self-reliance, presence, and emotional clarity.
The 6 songs, 'Peace & Love', 'Stand Still', 'Make Time', 'fragile love', 'Colours in the Sky' and finally 'PLAY THE GAME' all correspond to one colour each—showcasing the diversity of Cait Lin's bicultural background representing it as a rainbow.
Cait Lin weaves music with impactful messages that represent both her roots, whether she sings in English or Chinese. Despite the genre that the track is, the message of each track sticks with listeners—making her a powerhouse musician in the music world.
