CARMELLE is bringing Filipino instruments, powerful vocals, and rapid-fire rap to Eurovision Song Contest Asia 2026.

The ABS-CBN artist will represent the Philippines at the inaugural competition in Bangkok, Thailand, on 14 November, performing 'Sobra-Sobra'. She secured her spot after beating nine other contenders at the Philippine Selection Night on 30 August.

Written by Mat Olavides and Nica del Rosario, the Philippine entry combines Filipino instruments such as the kulintang and kubing with Latin influences, pairing its musical mix with a message of confidence and self-worth.

“I think that combination reflects how Filipino music has always been shaped by different cultures while still developing its own identity,” Olavides explains.

Both songwriters have helped shape some of Filipino pop’s biggest hits. Olavides co-wrote BINI’s 'Salamin, Salamin' and co-produced 'Pantropiko', while del Rosario’s credits include the group’s 'Huwag Muna Tayong Umuwi' and 'Karera', alongside Sarah Geronimo’s 'Tala'.

For del Rosario, CARMELLE’s performance is an opportunity to showcase the range of Filipino talent to audiences across the region.

“I hope CARMELLE’s journey can show the rest of the world that world-class Filipino talent comes in all shapes and sizes. We are not limited to one sound nor one kind of performer,” she says.

That approach extends to the singer’s delivery, with del Rosario highlighting CARMELLE’s “distinct high and powerful belt” and “rapid-fire rapping” as key elements of the entry.

Beyond the performance, the writers hope 'Sobra-Sobra' will connect with listeners across languages and cultures.

“It’s about knowing your worth, being confident in who you are, and not letting other people define you,” says Olavides. “The energy of the song also makes it fun and easy to connect with, even if you don’t understand every word.”

Del Rosario adds: “‘Sobra-Sobra’ is a song that can empower women all over Asia. I believe that all women go through a lot of the same struggles despite race and culture.”

CARMELLE will compete against representatives from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam, bringing the inaugural contest’s line-up to 11 participating countries.

ABS-CBN serves as the competition’s official Philippine broadcast partner. Audiences in the Philippines can catch Eurovision Song Contest Asia 2026 through ABS-CBN platforms on 14 November.
