Dynamic girl group A2O MAY is commanding the spotlight with their signature bold and confident energy with their most recent single 'B.B.B'. The track definitely lives up to its name as the quintet goes "Bigger", with their vocals as they showcase their stunning musical range, "Badder" as they showcase their true iconic and unapologetic flair packed with sass and edge, and finally "Better" as they evolve to discover their own distinct identity, the trademark A2O MAY sound.

We caught up with A2O MAY to talk about the big moments that have shaped their journey so far. From the making of ‘B.B.B’ and the fearless energy they poured into it, to teaming up with their sister group A2O LTG, the girls had plenty to share. They also let us in on how they came up with Zalpha pop—their own groundbreaking genre that champions inclusivity and individuality.

A2O MAY discusses their journey so far, touching on their biggest hits that the MAYnias loved, and how they formed stepping stones to attain the growth they have had globally from America to Asia.

‘B.B.B’ feels like a declaration of confidence—what was going through your minds while recording this track?

MICHE: When we first heard the track, we were immediately so excited to record it! It was a new challenge for us, but during the recording sessions, we had so much fun and couldn’t wait for the day our MAYnias will get to hear it! And now it's out!!!!

KAT: 'B.B.B' has such a strong bass line and stylish sound that made us feel confident from the start. Throughout the whole track, the energy comes through even more, so recording it felt like preparing for something powerful.

How did the collaboration with A2O LTG come together, and what was it like bringing rookies into your world for the music video?

CHENYU: This collaboration came together super naturally! We’ve known LTG before we debuted, since we always trained and hung out together at the company. They’re basically our little sisters! So we thought it would be a fun idea to give a sneak peek to our sisters in the MV as part of our dance competition. It was a playful and friendly concept, just like how real sisters interact.

SHIJIE: Filming with them reminded us of our trainee days. It was full of fun and laughter! Their energy blended perfectly with ours, so it felt like family working together.

From ‘Under My Skin’ to ‘BOSS’ and now ‘B.B.B’, how would you describe the evolution of A2O MAY’s sound and message?

QUCHANG: 'Under My Skin' was our first bloom—innocent and fresh. With 'BOSS', we showed our energy and girl power, and now with 'B.B.B,' we’ve grown more confident and powerful.

SHIJIE: Our sound and messages are always evolving, as we constantly try to bring new ideas to our fans, but at the core they always reflect who A2O MAY is! And that’s what we love most about our music.

You’ve made history as the first Chinese idol group to perform at Wango Tango—what did that moment mean for each of you?

KAT: It was such an honor to represent our background in that way. Seeing the purple light sticks from MAYnias gave us so much strength on stage! That moment really meant everything to us.

MICHE: Being backstage with artists like Doja Cat and Meghan Trainor was unforgettable, and just sharing that moment, that environment, gave us even more motivation to dream bigger. It made us feel like we are truly starting our journey on the right foot.

What does the concept of “Zalpha Pop” personally mean to you as artists representing both Gen Z and Gen Alpha creativity?

SHIJIE: Zalpha Pop isn’t limited to one style. It's bold, diverse, and all about performance. It creates a space where anyone can connect through music, and through it, we hope to inspire the next generation to express themselves fearlessly.

CHENYU: Exactly! Zalpha Pop is really special since it’s not tied to a single background or sound, and that’s what makes it so powerful. It offers a more open and well-rounded way for anyone to empathize with the music and even find themselves in it.

Each of you comes from different cities and cultures—how does that diversity influence your dynamic as a group?

KAT: Our diverse backgrounds actually bring us closer and make us feel more connected because even though we come from different places, we’re all here together, dreaming the same dream!!

MICHE: And not only do our diversity shape our dynamic in this way, they also help us connect with fans all around the world. Thanks to our different backgrounds, we can communicate with fans all over the world. We are so lucky to have multiple cultures and languages on our side!

How do you balance being both idols and creatives—what part of the process do you take the most ownership of (songwriting, styling, choreography)?

SHIJIE: We debut as idols, and we constantly grow as creatives. It’s really important to us that every aspect of a song, performance, or photoshoot represents us. We always work closely with our team to share ideas to make everything from shoots to live stages happen! We love that our work really reflects who we are!

With your rapid rise in the U.S. and Asia, what’s been the most unexpected reaction or fan moment so far?

CHENYU: Honestly, I was surprised by how much attention my deep voice got! Seeing edits and reactions highlighting my lines was amazing.

SHIJIE: We always knew her tone was really unique, but watching all those reactions just dedicated to her lines has been such a fun surprise. For me personally, our very first fan meeting in the U.S. was unforgettable. Meeting MAYnias face-to-face was so touching.

QUCHANG: For me, out of all the stages we’ve done, I still remember the TMEA stage so vividly. Seeing thousands of audience members cheering for us at such a huge event was truly unforgettable.

Outside of music, what’s one passion or hobby that fans might be surprised to learn about each of you?

SHIJIE: For me, I really love sports. When I was little, I really enjoyed climbing and badminton, plus I can also jump rope really well.

CHENYU: I enjoy doing my self-care routine, like meditation and listening to music that helps me feel relaxed.

KAT: For me, it will be Latin dance! I actually learned Latin dance when I was young, so that is one of my passions that I also hope to bring into my music one day!

MICHE: And for me, I love drawing and crafting—sketches, watercolors, painting! They’re all satisfying things to do in my free time.

What can fans expect next from A2O MAY’s journey?

KAT: Our first EP is coming soon, and it really shows a new side of us. Get ready, MAYnias~

SHIJIE: There’s still so much we want to share with you—more stages, more fan meetups. Please stay tuned and look forward to what’s next! We love you so much!
