Singapore singer-songwriter Charlie Lim has released his latest single, 'The Hardest Thing', a poignant duet with Scottish artist Tamzene.
The track serves as the lead single from Lim’s forthcoming album, DAYDREAM, and was written during his time in London. Centred on love, heartbreak, and the stories people tell themselves to make sense of both, 'The Hardest Thing' sits with the quiet ache of a relationship reaching its breaking point.
“I think most of us accept that all relationships require work, compromise and sacrifice,” says Lim. “I don’t think it’s a bed of roses, but at some point you wonder whether it really has to be this difficult. The song doesn't try to answer that question but tries to sit with it.”
For Tamzene, the collaboration became a way of working through heartbreak with a friend.
“It's always a joy to work with talented friends, and writing this song with Charlie was therapy for us both,” she says. “The risk we take in giving love is big, and the fallout can be brutal. So this song is for the heartbroken, in hopes they softly find their way again.”
Co-produced by Singapore ambient artist Kin Leonn, the track also features Ng Pei-Sian, Principal Cellist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
