Musicians, visual artists, industry partners and Web3 developers come together to launch new artist collective DAO, 'The Great Wave'

Charlie Lim is part of The Great Wave.

In an announcement made on 28 March, the Singaporean singer-songwriter shared that he is part of the vast creative team launching the new artist collective DAO (decentralised autonomous organisation), The Great Wave. As part of his continued ventures into Web3, this new move comes in partnership with the established DeFi (decentralised finance) project ACryptoS.

"I’m always inspired by new frameworks for coordination that can empower artists and their communities,” said the award-wiining act in an official statement. “While blockchain isn’t a silver bullet for all the problems we face, we believe the DAO can offer an alternative model for artists, industry partners, and our audiences –where having a stake in the collective means sharing in its success together."

Together with a team of musicians, visual artists, industry partners, and Web3 developers, The Great Wave aims to provide a platform that uplifts and supports artist projects while building a transparent and sustainable model that puts artists and their communities first. The collective is currently preparing for its first release soon.

"We wanted to start the collective with minimal pre-funding or private pre-allocations, allowing anybody to commit to the DAO,” says lead developer HM in an official statement. “The conscious decision not to rely on bigger corporations or VCs from the beginning will also allow us to operate at a pace the collective is comfortable with.”

It is one of the many DAOs—which are networks of stakeholders working together by common aspirations—established recently, as the industry moves towards Web3. Alongside Charlie Lim, The Great Wave is also being launched by industry leaders from the likes of music media company Bandwagon Asia, music education collective The Music Circle, and more.
