There are songs that just feel like home; the melodies are oh-so-comforting and their lyrics just radiate so much warmth. In the same way, there are people whose presence just feel so relieving, like a safe space where you can just simply be.
But these songs and people are hard to come by. It requires a whole lot of patience and heart to traverse through the sea of music and people to find the one. So, this heart's day, we're shining a light on a pair who managed to find both.
We spoke to one of our favourite musical couples, Clara Benin and Gabba to share us with the warm and fuzzy songs that have defined their relationship through the years. Check out the special Gabba+Clara Valentine's mix below!
'Cavalry' - Novo Amour
We had a Baguio trip with some of our friends and this song was on repeat on our way there. This song is also reminiscent of our early days together.
'Vivid' - ena mori
We love ena mori's music. We've bonded so much over it and that's why when gigs started opening again, she was one of the artists we really tried to catch live.
'inconsist' - OLAFUR ARNALDS
One of the songs we listen to for that quiet drive home after going to a loud show.
'C' - TOE
We were gonna cover this on Instagram before (Gabba on drums, Clara on electric) but never pushed through. We also bond over Toe’s music a lot. We went to 2 Toe concerts together.
A Face to Call Home - John Mayer
Our first actual real-life conversation was about John Mayer, haha. Watching him live together in Bangkok was also a highlight for us.
'itsallwaves' - Enemies
One of our go-to songs when driving.
'Holocene' - Bon Iver
We both watched Bon Iver in Wanderland but we didn't really know each other yet at that time. We talked about it years after and we both agree that it is one of the best live performances we've experienced.
'I Like me better' - Lauv
This song was Gabba's guilty pleasure for a time. I surprised him with tickets to Lauv's Araneta show back in 2018! I just got the cheapest seats but we had so much fun.
'reckless driving' - Lizzy Mcalpine
We both love how dynamic this song is! We're also obsessed with how Lizzy sings the word "far" here (the first line of the song) We always copy it in the car, haha.
'Favorite' - Ang Bandang Shirley
This album came out when we started dating
'Never Gonna Be Alone' - Jacob Collier, John Mayer, Lizzie McAlpine
We both really love Lizzy Mcalpine, Jacob and John Mayer so this collaboration was a delicious treat for the both of us.
