Damon Albarn urges music to be more political, condemns "selfie music"

Damn Albarn has implored musicians to put some bite into their craft by making more political music.

In an appearance on BBC 6 Music’s The Leisure Society programme with presenter Gemma Cairney, the Blur and Gorillaz honcho was asked about his views on a number of topics including Brexit, the importance of travel and contemporary music. Of the politicisation of the latter, he had the following to say: "It needs to – it really, really needs to,” adding, “The selfie music is not sustainable. Have I made a selfie tune? I probably tried to but my innate obtuse nature prevented me from doing it properly".

In 2015, Albarn issued a similar condemnation of vapid, toothless, "selfie music": "It’s the selfie generation. They’re talking platitudes".
