Once again the trio pours their heart out in a vulnerable expression of desperation that comes with chasing a relationship that's doomed to fail. The lyrics cement this narrative as they say, "A brand new mess, and a new addiction" — delving into the chaos that comes with simultaneously pushing the toxic relationship away while still craving the presence of the person.
Frontman and chief songwriter of the band, Diego Cerrudo, talks about the inspiration behind the track as he muses, "I wrote Submissive and Moshable with the idea of being salty about a failed relationship that you wanted so bad to work but it just wasn’t healthy. The lyrics have a bit of a push and pull of wanting something but at the same time pushing that something away.”
Showing a more raw side is not new territory for Diego’s Scenes, as they have released songs ranging from themes such as adoration and yearning for quality time with someone you'd want to pursue a relationship with, to more reflective, balladous tunes that reassure their listeners that it's completely ok to have bad days.
Diego also reveals that he writes lyrics for most of his tracks from a place of emotion to get the true impact of the message across instead of finding ways to sugarcoat the uncomfortable nature of the themes that the tracks tackle. His writing style is often unapologetic as he truly bares his soul to fans.
With 'Submissive and Moshable', Diego’s Scenes reinforce their lyrical maturity — weaving together with the addictive crashing drumbeats and guitar riffs, culminating in their distinct sound that sets them apart from many other talents in this generation.
