Marikina-based indie alt rock band Diego’s Scenes drops another emotionally upbeat banger with a deliciously-sounding title—'Unli Wings Tinola Edition'.
For the 24-year-old frontman of the two-piece group, Diego Cerrudo recounts his own experiences of growing up being an only child and having that insatiable itch of making music. “'Unli Wings Tinola Edition' is about the experience of loneliness of an only child that decides to start a band with his friends,” Cerrudo shares. “With the goal to succeed and get out of a lonely home.”
When asked about the peculiar title of the song, the singer explains that the idea stems from the merit of having the privilege of “unlimited wings” but with a few downsides: you have no one to share it with and the “wings” are the household staple “Tinolang Manok” rather than the more expected “buffalo wings”. Although the thought behind the title is heavily subjective (since some listeners might feel that having unlimited Tinolang Manok is a good thing), Cerrudo describes it as “having the best things in life but with a catch.”
Aside from the deliberate inspiration from pop punk bands of the early 00s with the song's expressive lyrical structure—growing up alone, starting a band, and wishing to get out of your childhood town, this track also speaks with a hopeful intention to the ears that may fancy a listen or two. When asked about the overall message of the song, Cerrudo emphasized on being free to explore a life out of your comfort zone, saying, “I want them to be free to explore and see that there's more to the world than just the four walls of a home.”
