Malaysian pop trio DOLLA have pulled the music video for their latest single ‘Question’ after it drew criticism from religious figures and sparked scrutiny from the country’s Religious Affairs Ministry.
Released earlier in November, the video featured members Sabronzo (Wan Sabrina Wan Rusli), Tabby (Tabitha Ariel Lam), and Angel (Angelina Chai) in a retro diner setting confronting a cheating boyfriend. Shortly after its release, conservative commentators questioned the styling and presentation.

On 15 November, Universal Music Malaysia (UMM) confirmed it had removed the video from all platforms, stating that “as a recording company operating within Malaysia’s diverse ecosystem, we always respect cultural values, religious sensitivities and the views of our fans.” The label added: “We believe creativity and artistic expression must go hand-in-hand with awareness of local norms.”
The removal followed public criticism from Islamic preacher Asma’ Harun, who described the video as “very immoral” and urged audiences to avoid supporting content that “destroys manners and dignity.”

The controversy intensified when Malaysia’s Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, commented that “celebrities are role models” and emphasised that Muslims must ensure their actions “lead others towards good.” His remarks contributed to heightened attention around the video before its withdrawal.
While some Malaysians praised the label’s decision as being sensitive to local cultural expectations, others raised concerns about moral policing and the increasing pressure placed on women in the entertainment industry, especially Muslim performers navigating the balance between artistic expression and public perception.

As conversations continue, DOLLA and their label now face the challenge of steering the momentum for ‘Question’ while responding to the wider cultural debate their video has ignited.
