Dru Chen, together with Charlie Lim and Euntaek Kim of Charlie Lim & The Mothership, have joined forces for a "free-form, intimate show" at The Powder Room.
“We’re getting back to the basics of playing music together as friends, jamming and finding common ground,” says Dru.
“We wanted to find a place to try out some new ideas and play songs we don't normally get to play in our usual shows. The Powder Room emanates a low-key, relaxed, jazzy vibe – perfect for what we're doing.”
Charlie and Euntaek will be swapping their usual guitar and keys weaponry for drums and bass while Dru leads with his signature soulful vocals, taking on new tracks and stepping outside of their usual repertoires.
“Its all just a bit of fun, really! I've played some solo shows over the years and Charlie has jumped up to play the drums and it was very spontaneous. We go back 8 or 9 years, so we're old friends catching up. Euntaek is one of the hippest musicians around town. I thought he was a killer piano player but when I heard him on the guitar and bass, I was blown away,” commented Dru on the formation of the trio.
They will be covering a range of neo-soul, funk, blues and R&B tunes, along with new renditions of Dru's funky originals.
