Electronic music festival Sónar to launch first Asian edition

One of the most respected and prolific brands in the electronic music scene is finally making its mark in Asia.

Sónar Festival, originating from Barcelona, Spain, will debut its first Asian edition in Hong Kong on April 1st. The festival will take place at the futuristic-looking Hong Kong Science Park.

On the venue, Sónar comments: "The Hong Kong Science Park echoes the essence of the festival, providing a space where creativity and technology meet in a fun, creative and inspiring environment."

The festival is renowned for its top-tier line-up curation and celebration of next-gen technology, featuring non-music installations, exhibitions, lectures, and general activities that have elevated itself from the standard music festival.

There's no doubt Sónar will also deliver a stunning list of acts to perform in Hong Kong, but for now, they have yet to announce a line-up.

However, the performers to appear at the main festival in Barcelona (happening in June) have recently been expanded, and it's an incredible mix — Anderson .Paak, Soulwax, Nicolas Jaaar, Nina Kraviz, DJ Shadow, Arca, Justice, Little Dragon, The Black Madonna, and many others.

It's possible that some of these acts would make an appearance in Asia at the festival, but if Sónar intends on keeping the Hong Kong line-up separate, we'd love to see some boundary-pushing acts like Bjork, Kaytranada, Death Grips, Tim Hecker, Elysia Crampton, Jessy Lanza, or Ash Koosha. Any of these acts would do, really. Please?

Head over to Sónar's official website for more information. Tickets are not yet available, but if you sign up for their newsletter, you're likely to be eligible for a 20% discount.

More news to come when the line-up is officially released.
