Filipino music legend Ely Buendia returns with the release of his single 'Ate', exploring new sonic styles to infuse into his signature raw and authentic sound.

The simplicity and warmth that 'Ate' has is reminiscent of a sense of innocence and carefree nature, with the positive harmonies, with the layering between the lush guitar chords and Buendia's heartfelt vocals and emotive storytelling. Following the prior release of his solo album Method Adaptor last year, 'Ate' illustrates his idea to pivot from the record's heavier, more intense sound.

Buendia reveals more about his idea behind pursuing this style for the single as he shares, "The melody had such a nursery rhyme-feel, which came directly from the harmonized lead guitar lines that go up the major scale." 'Ate' reflects a mindset of finding light in life’s ups and downs, which comes through in each verse.

Sticking with the theme of making small changes when it came to conceptualising and producing 'Ate', Buendia also recorded the track in a different place than he usually does. Having recorded the album in Baguio, he cited his reason behind the change, expressing that, "I needed a change of pace. I love the weather there [Baguio]."

This in turn contributed to him working with music producer and label head of Nine Degrees North, Shadiel Chan, marking their first collaborative project together. “Shad[niel] had a fresh take on everything. He works fast, which I really like, and had spot on instincts. I’m always up for working with new blood, there’s a lot you can learn from them," Buendia states.

Beyond being another single in the powerhouse musicians stacked discography, 'Ate' stands as a pillar of discovery, sonic exploration and experimentation. The track reinforces Buendia as one of the most versatile musicians of our generation.
