Filipino musician and folk icon Heber Bartolome has passed away, his brother confirms.
In an interview with Super Radyo dzBB, Heber's brother Jesse announced the news of his sudden death. Heber was 73.
"Biglaan, masaya pa kami nung birthday niya eh... noong nakaraang Tuesday," Jesse said, adding that Heber had just celebrated his birthday last 9 November. Jesse clarifies that Heber's death was not COVID-related, but that he'd been suffering from prostate stones for over a year. No details regarding the burial schedule have been released.
Back in the Philippines' martial law years, Heber formed the band Banyuhay with his brothers Jesse and Levi. He was known for the songs 'Tayo'y Mga Pinoy', 'Dukha', 'Nena', 'Salome', 'Pasahero', and 'Almusal'.
Heber was the songwriter for Bulwagang Gantimpala's 1989 musical drama Ibong Adarna. He also founded the UP Astrological Society.
