Combining the best from both Muri and Shigge's own distinct musical flair, the EP explores the cultural exchange between the duo. SETSUNA defies the boundaries of genres and explores sonic styles like neo-soul, house, and UKG with dance-infused rhythms and drum n’ bass.
For Muri, she explained that she listened to a variety of different synth-driven dance and house tracks by a vast range of artists, from Kaytranada to Cody Curry and PinkPantheress—helping her get into the proper groove for the specific sound she wanted for the album.
When asked about the process behind the pair's collaboration, Muri expresses, "This was our first time creating a joint EP together. When we wrote our first song, it was initially unsettling as we navigated our shared style and ventured beyond our comfort zones. But looking back at it, the experience was one that was very exciting because you have no idea how it will turn out, and at the end, you both really enjoy what you create."
She adds, "Aside from our single 'GOLDEN HOUR,' which we wrote together in person, the creative process was quite smooth. We wrote the rest of the EP remotely from Manila, Tokyo, and London, sending demos back and forth and iterating on each other’s ideas.”
Their single gives a perfect preview into the album's overall vibe. The track's psychedelic and dreamy prelude that explodes into a high-energy chorus accompanied with fast drumbeats and bouncy synths, encapsulates the versatility of SETSUNA and represents the two different cultures blending together through this collaborative album.
Experience the refreshing cross-cultural collaboration that is SETSUNA.
