Golden Village is preparing to bid farewell to its Plaza Singapura outlet after 28 years, as the cinema begins winding down operations ahead of the mall’s major revamp. Six halls will hold their final screenings on 2 August, while the remaining halls will continue operating until the cinema’s last day on 16 August.
Since opening in 1998, GV Plaza has served generations of moviegoers through blockbuster releases, special event screenings, and film festivals. Over the years, it has also become especially beloved among anime fans, having hosted numerous anime film screenings and community gatherings built around shared passion and fandom.

In a statement, Golden Village CEO Clara Cheo expressed gratitude for the support from patrons as she states, "We are deeply grateful to generations of moviegoers who have supported GV Plaza over the past 28 years. The cinema has been home to countless shared experiences and we thank our patrons, partners, staff, and our landlord, Plaza Singapura and CapitaLand; for being part of this remarkable journey and for their support over the years. We will continue to provide the very best cinema experiences to our patrons, while bringing in new entertainment offerings to our cinemas including live viewing concerts, VR screenings, fan meetings, corporate events and private parties."
As part of its farewell, Golden Village will roll out a series of initiatives celebrating the memories made at GV Plaza. From 1 July to 16 August 2026, patrons who purchase movie tickets online for screenings at GV Plaza will stand a chance to receive an e-voucher for a complimentary regular popcorn or regular Coca-Cola, with the purchase of two movie tickets at any of Golden Village’s 16 locations. The vouchers, limited to the first 10,000 selected patrons, can be redeemed between 17 August and 31 October 2026.

Golden Village is also inviting moviegoers to look back on their time at GV Plaza through the Share Your GV Plaza Memories Contest on Instagram. Running from 1 July to 16 August 2026, the campaign asks participants to follow @gvmovieclub, post a favourite memory of GV Plaza Singapura with a photo or video, tag the account, and use the hashtag #ThankYouGVPlaza. One winning entry will receive a private cinema hall booking at GV Cineleisure for a selected movie, with up to 60 guests.
While GV Plaza prepares for its final chapter, moviegoers will still be able to catch films at nearby locations including GV Cineleisure, GV Bugis, GV Funan, GV Grand, and GV City Square, alongside the brand’s network of cinemas across Singapore. Even as one of its longest-standing outlets closes its doors, Golden Village says it remains committed to delivering quality cinema and entertainment experiences islandwide.
