GENERATIONS are taking on their own dancefloor legacy with ‘VIBE’.
Released digitally on 28 September, the EDM-driven single was created to stand alongside ‘AGEHA’, a defining track for the Japanese group released a decade ago. A physical release follows on 28 October, marking their first CD single in four years.
Member Alan Shirahama co-wrote and arranged ‘VIBE’, working alongside TET$V and Kanata Okajima. The track draws on the dance sound long associated with GENERATIONS and LDH, combining a propulsive beat and an immediate hook with moments designed for fans to shout along at concerts and festivals.
“It's something only GENERATIONS, and only LDH, can really pull off, and over time I think it's stopped being ‘the sound of that era’ and become something closer to a sound that's genuinely ours, one with lasting value,” Shirahama shared. “But we didn't just want to repeat it, we packed in things that still feel fresh inside that same DNA.”
The accompanying music video places live-action footage of all six members against backgrounds and environments created using generative AI. Dance takes centre stage, with choreography developed specifically for the video and a sliding sequence from vocalist Ryuto Kazuhara among its featured moments.
‘VIBE’ also arrives ahead of the group’s 15th anniversary year, which begins in November. For Shirahama, the song’s opening line sets the tone for what comes next.
“Opening the song with the line ‘this is where the good part starts’ is both a declaration and a challenge to ourselves,” he explained. “It's not an aggressive track either, there's a sense of ease that comes from having grown up, but we also built in moments where the audience can shout along with us live.”
All six members marked the release with a LINE livestream, sharing stories around VIBE-themed topics. The broadcast drew more than one million total views.
