Fans of George Michael will soon get the chance to experience one of the defining moments of his career on the big screen.

A newly restored concert film, George Michael: The Faith Tour, is making its way to Singapore cinemas, with screenings beginning exclusively at Shaw Theatres on 20 November. Featuring never-before-seen footage from his landmark 1988 tour, the film offers a rare look at the late pop icon during his rise as one of music's most celebrated solo performers.

Announced by George Michael Entertainment in partnership with Mercury Studios, the film began its worldwide theatrical rollout on 6 November, bringing previously unseen performances from the singer's groundbreaking Faith Tour to audiences nearly four decades later.

Filmed over two nights at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in 1988, the concert was captured using 14 cameras on 35mm film. The long-lost footage has since been meticulously restored and remastered, bringing the energy, musicianship and charisma of Michael's live performances to life with renewed clarity.

Directed by his longtime collaborators Andy Morahan and David Austin, the film captures the then 24-year-old singer at a pivotal moment in his career, having successfully stepped out of the shadow of Wham! to establish himself as a formidable solo artist.

The theatrical experience will also feature Finding Faith, an original short film directed by Mary McCartney. Offering further insight into the tour's cultural significance, the documentary includes voiceover from a previously unheard interview with Michael, rare photographs taken by renowned photographer Herb Ritts, and behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the ‘Faith’ music video.

The film revisits the era surrounding Michael's landmark solo album, Faith, which showcased his ability to blend pop, soul, R&B and rock while taking greater creative control of his music.

Written, arranged, produced and performed almost entirely by Michael, the album went on to sell more than 25 million copies worldwide and earned him a GRAMMY Award for Album of the Year. It also produced four US Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers, ‘Faith’, ‘Father Figure’, ‘One More Try’ and ‘Monkey’, cementing his place among the defining pop stars of the 1980s.

Accompanying the theatrical release is The Faith Tour, an 18-track live album featuring previously unreleased recordings from the same world tour. Released on 6 November through George Michael Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment, the record brings together live performances spanning both his Wham! years and solo catalogue, offering fans another opportunity to rediscover his extraordinary vocal talent.

The release also serves as a celebration of Michael's enduring legacy, nearly a decade after his passing in 2016. With a career spanning more than three decades, over 125 million solo records sold worldwide and an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2023, his influence continues to resonate across generations.
