Getai Soul 2016 festival shines a spotlight on regional soul music

Fresh off the success of their Getai Ethnica and Getai Electronica events last year, the folks from the Getai Group will be launching a unique soul music festival in May, aptly called, Getai Soul!

Featuring some of Singapore's finest soul musicians alongside a carefully curated lineup of ground-breaking acts from Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo and Jakarta, this one looks set to be a unique event for gig-goers here. Although our live music scene is as vibrant as it's ever been, even the keenest observers will have to admit that there hasn't really been much of a focus on soul music from around the region. Thankfully, Getai Soul looks to put that right with this two-day festival weekender.

The full lineup is still slowly being teased out, but from what we can gather, the limited bill Getai Group has announced is already well worth your time. With local headliners like Charlie Lim & The Mothership, Vandetta, The Steve McQueens, Dru Chen and TAJ (among many others) sharing the stage with Asian heavyweights such as Najwa (Malaysia), Za FeeDo (Japan) and Barry Likumahuwa (Indonesia), Getai Soul seems to be pulling out all the stops for this one. They'll be rolling out more acts soon via their Facebook event page, so keep a look out.

Beyond the musical lineup though, Getai Soul will also be providing a more holistic experience to its audience by incorporating native Chinatown-based culture and F&B (we expect lots of soul food!) alongside lifestyle and retail elements to the party.

UPDATE: Getai Soul 2016 takes place on 7 May - 8 May at Pearl's Hill City Park. Tickets purchased here.
