The Indonesian indie-pop band has dropped a new riot grrrl and punk-inspired single, 'Spunky!'. Released on 30 May alongside the music video, the single ticks all of Grrrl Gang's trademark traits — direct, no-nonsense, and non-apologetic.
"I was born in the pit, I gave birth in the pit, I never shave my pits, let me swallow your spit," sings frontwoman Angeeta Sentana anthemically in the chorus.
Adding that the song was a description of a manic episode she experienced, Sentana shared: "I feel like I’m on top of the world, untouchable. I do things without thinking, always chasing after that feeling of instant gratification. I feel extra confident in myself - to a point of grandiose thinking - and that I could do anything".
Their upcoming debut album Spunky! sees the trio as they make a move from their hometown of Yogyakarta to Jakarta as the members graduate from college and picked up day jobs in the capital. The album will also see the band — consisting of Sentana, Akbar Rumandung on bass, and Edo Alventa on guitar — working with producer Lafa Pratomo who has collaborated with other Indonesian indie acts such as Danilla and Mondo Gascaro
Grrrl Gang's debut album Spunky! will be released on 22 September and is available for preorder here.
