Rising J-pop girl group HANA are stepping into the anime spotlight with their latest single ‘COLD NIGHT’, released as the official opening theme for Medalist season 2.
Marking their first-ever anime tie-in, ‘COLD NIGHT’ sees the seven-member group embrace a more direct and uplifting sound. Built as an anthem for anyone chasing their dreams or standing at a crossroads, the track leans into honest lyricism and emotional drive — a contrast from HANA’s earlier releases, but one that still carries their signature intensity.
The song arrives alongside the premiere of Medalist season 2, an emotional sports anime centred on figure skating, growth, and the bond between mentor and student. According to the group, ‘COLD NIGHT’ was written to encourage listeners to keep moving forward, even after repeated setbacks — a message that mirrors the anime’s core themes.
‘COLD NIGHT’ will also appear on HANA, the group’s self-titled debut album, set for release on 23 February. The album will feature 11 tracks, including fan favourites ‘ROSE’, ‘Blue Jeans’, a live version of ‘Tiger’, and new songs ‘Bloom’ and ‘ALL IN’.
