BTS’ long-awaited return to the stage at 21 March’s BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE: ARIRANG was a historic moment — but it didn’t come without controversy.
Following the large-scale concert at Gwanghwamun Square, HYBE issued an official statement addressing concerns over crowd control measures, traffic restrictions, and security checks that affected the surrounding area.
The agency offered a direct apology to citizens, nearby merchants, office workers, and visitors, acknowledging the disruption caused by the event.
“We would like to sincerely apologize to those who commute through Gwanghwamun Square and everyone who experienced inconvenience in their precious personal schedules or daily routines,” HYBE said.

“Because we absolutely needed to ensure the safety of this event that was receiving attention from all over the world, we inevitably had to implement certain measures.”
While the measures were implemented for safety, they drew attention for impacting daily routines in one of Seoul’s busiest and most culturally significant districts.
HYBE also extended thanks to authorities and public service teams, including police, fire departments, and government officials, who supported the event’s execution.
“We are deeply grateful to the police, fire department, government, and local officials who made it possible for us to safely wrap up this event,” the company shared.

At the same time, HYBE emphasised the role of civic cooperation, noting that the concert was only possible through the understanding and maturity of the public.
“The orderly spectators, your mature civic-mindedness, and the mutual consideration shown for one another made this event shine even brighter.”
Beyond addressing the disruption, HYBE framed the concert as a global cultural moment, highlighting how the performance helped spotlight Korea’s heritage on the world stage.

The statement closed on a somber note, with HYBE offering condolences to those affected by the recent Daejeon fire.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the bereaved families, and we wish those who were injured a speedy recovery.”
Despite the concerns raised, BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE: ARIRANG remains a defining return for BTS — one that reflects both the scale of their global impact and the real-world complexities of staging a concert of this magnitude in the heart of a city.
