HYBE’s original story animation DARK MOON: THE BLOOD ALTAR is making its global debut on 9 January, bringing its vampire fantasy universe to over 80 regions worldwide.
Based on the hit webtoon of the same name — a project in collaboration with ENHYPEN that has amassed over 200 million views — the series marks a major move in HYBE’s expanding transmedia universe. Fans can now immerse themselves in a new dimension of the DARK MOON saga through the animated series, which will stream on Crunchyroll with dubbed and subtitled versions in eight languages.
Produced by Japanese animation heavyweights Aniplex and TROYCA, and directed by Shoko Shiga (Overtake!), DARK MOON: THE BLOOD ALTAR promises visually rich storytelling rooted in the supernatural, with a gripping vampire narrative at its core.
To celebrate the premiere, teaser videos will light up Times Square in New York starting 12 January, and special events will roll out across WEBTOON platforms in multiple regions.
“Based on a globally popular webtoon with a universally appealing vampire narrative, we believe that DARK MOON: THE BLOOD ALTAR will resonate with audiences around the world,” said Kurosaki, producer at Aniplex.
The series is the latest evolution of HYBE ORIGINAL STORY, a unique storytelling ecosystem that has spanned webtoons, web novels, books, and brand collabs since 2021. Alongside DARK MOON: THE BLOOD ALTAR, the platform also includes titles like 7FATES: CHAKHO (BTS), THE STAR SEEKERS (TOMORROW X TOGETHER), and newer entries like SUMMER MOON: THE QUPRIDS (ILLIT).
For fans of ENHYPEN, this release is especially meaningful. Since debuting under BELIFT LAB in 2020, the group has skyrocketed to global success, racking up four Billboard 200 Top 10 albums and touring arenas and stadiums worldwide. Now, their artistry expands into the world of animation — further blurring the lines between music, story, and screen.
