South African global superstar Tyla is bringing her signature amapiano flair and unstoppable energy to Asia. Fresh from her Glamour Women of the Year cover and the release of her sultry new single ‘Chanel’, the GRAMMY-winning artist is set to make her long-awaited Singapore debut with the We Wanna Party Asia Tour this 5 December at The Arena @ EXPO (purchase tickets here).
Bandwagon sat down with Tyla to talk about her first-ever headline tour, her connection with fans (affectionately known as the Tygers), and what’s in store for the Singapore crowd.

“I’m starting my first headline tour in Asia.”
What excites you most about bringing your ‘We Wanna Party’ tour to Singapore? Anything you’re excited to try while you’re here?
I’m so excited to do the We Wanna Party tour, especially starting it in Asia — that’s very exciting for me. This is my first headline tour ever. It’s just going to be such a cool memory for me.
I’ve never been to Singapore, so I’m curious to see how the people are, what the food is, what the culture is. I’m excited to dive in, learn a lot, and share my culture with everyone over there. I’m just excited to rock with the Singapore audience and see how they vibe and how they party.

“This is a completely new tour I’ve never performed before.”
You’ve done massive shows around the world — what’s different about this Asia leg?
My usual tour is now changed completely. This is a completely new tour that I’ve never performed ever in my life, so I’m really excited to kick this off in Asia and see how the people like it.
Right now, I’m in rehearsals, and I haven’t really thought too deep about my routine and everything, but I’m excited to get everything done and learn everything — to be with the team and then sit down with myself and actually think about all these things.
This is such a big opportunity for me that I’m really excited about. Usually, I take a whole day to myself where I write in my journal — I write down the goals I want to have for the trip and the routines I want to follow. I like to have a day to do that. I’m excited to see what that looks like for this tour, but yeah, I can’t wait to go.

“It’s going to be the craziest tour — a party in the audience.”
If fans could only know one thing about your Singapore set, what would make them say ‘I’m not missing this’?
I mean, this is going to be the craziest tour! It’s going to be a party in the audience. I want to make sure there are dance circles in the crowd — people need to feel free. There’s no judgment; everyone needs to be hype.
I’m excited to have a party with everyone.

“Learn the moves — I want to see everyone dancing.”
You’ve created so many viral choreos. What’s the “homework” for fans before show day?
I encourage everyone that’s coming to the tour to watch old tour videos — especially the festival runs — and just see the moves that I do, the signature moves.
I want to see everyone doing the ‘Push 2 Start’ choreo, the ‘Is It’ choreo — just everything. It would be fire to see everyone in the crowd participating, because it’s a party at the end of the day. We’re all going to be partying together.

“This show is for the old and new Tygers.”
You’ve got fans who’ve been there since ‘Water’, and new ones discovering you now through ‘Chanel’. How are you making sure everyone feels included?
I’m going to have a lot of my old stuff and my new stuff performed, which is exciting. The set is a nice, long one, so I’m able to fit songs that I wasn’t able to fit before. People are going to see new stuff, people are going to see old stuff, and I feel like it’s going to be a fresh show and look for both old and new Tygers.
I’m excited for everyone to meet each other in the audience and become friends and everything — because we are literally a family.

“Show up in your baddest bobs.”
What’s one promise you can make fans about the show?
I promise that it’s going to be a vibe. It’s going to be a party, it’s going to be wild. I’m going to go all in. I’m going to have the most fun on stage, and I expect everyone to have fun in the audience.
I want everyone to show up in bobs — they must show up in their baddest bobs. I’m excited to see the crowd, a sea full of bobs, all different colors, all different shapes and sizes. I want to see how crazy the bobs can get!
