Strange Fruit have released ‘Iridescent’, a swirling, acid house–inflected single that marks a stunning new chapter for the Jakarta-based five-piece. Out via Gentle Tuesday Recordings, the track breathes new life into the band’s signature shoegaze-meets-electronica blend, injecting it with kinetic energy and rave-ready pulses.
Described by vocalist and synthesist Baldi Calvianca as a “healing song,” ‘Iridescent’ is both a personal and sonic rebirth. Co-written with synth wizard Irza Aryadiaz, the track leans into the duo’s fascination with Kosmische and UK acid house, pairing crystal-sharp synths with analog drum hits and minimalist basslines. The result? A vibrant, weightless experience that feels like dancing through a kaleidoscope.
“There are sounds on this record that we couldn’t have made with guitars,” Baldi shares. “If we kept making guitar-based music like before, this band would have died.”
Formed in 2012, Strange Fruit built their cult following with shoegaze textures and dreamy electronica, as heard on their 2015 EP The Dolphin Leap. But ‘Iridescent’ signals an intentional pivot into full-blown electronic territory—a preview of their upcoming EP Drips, due March 2026.
The track lands on streaming platforms 10 December.
