CARELESS Music's James Reid, Eventscape Manila apologise for mishaps at Wavy Baby Festival in Cebu

The organisers of Wavy Baby Music Festival have released a statement.

On 17 January, CARELESS Music's James Reid and events management company Eventscape Manila have issued their own statements regarding the mishaps surrounding the Cebu-based event over Sinulog weekend.

In a video, Reid, CARELESS' Chairman and co-founder, apologised for the festival's technical issues, safety requirements, and schedule conflicts. "Despite all the challenges that came our way in Sinulog, I decided we needed to push through and see Wavy Baby come to life. [...] I do want to apologise to you guys as well, I did everything in my power to give everyone the very best experience despite the rain and technical difficulties," he shared, specifically apologising to Cebu-based acts Sepia Times, Three Legged Men, The Sundown, and Wonggoys for their cancelled performances

"I would like to sincerely apologise to our Cebu artists, Wonggoys, Three Legged Men, The Sundown, and Sepia Times for not being able to share the stage with you this time. But thank you for allowing us to come to your hometown and throw this amazing experience. I promise we'll make it up to you. You guys are all legends, thank you," added Reid. The singer-actor also emphasised that "All grievances will be answered by the Wavy Baby Festival team in the coming days."

In a separate post, Eventscape Manila addressed concerns surrounding the festival, sharing that unforeseen circumstances have contributed to several logistical challenges for the event's two-day run. The organisers also shared that due to sudden regulations, they had to compress their runtime leading to several cancelled performances.

"We also had to comply with sudden regulations to strictly end Day 1 and Day 2 earlier than expected. This forced us to immediately compress show time, resulting to several bands being unable to perform, including some Manila and international artists, not just Cebu bands. We would like to stress that it was never our intention to insult the international, Cebu, and Manila artists who have graciously accepted our invitation. Nonetheless, we apologize to everyone, especially to the affected artists and their disappointed fans," wrote Eventscape Manila.

In a statement sent to Bandwagon via email, Wavy Baby Festival further apologised for the issues and challenges leading to several cancelled performances. "Come Sinulog weekend, we were faced with multiple challenges brought about by the inclement weather that had us regrettably make cuts in the performance lineup. It was definitely not an easy decision on our end but having to cut an equal amount of the local Cebuano and international acts that we initially booked had to be made," they explained.

Even during the early stages of our planning for Wavy Baby, we made it a goal to share the stage with Cebu's best. We reached out to them in the hopes of creating a beautiful musical experience for everyone who would be at Wavy Baby.

Come Sinulog weekend, we were faced with multiple challenges brought about by the inclement weather that had us regrettably make cuts in the performance lineup. It was definitely not an easy decision on our end but having to cut an equal amount of the local Cebuano and international acts that we initially booked had to be made. In complete transparency, it was based on legal stipulations in contracts, technical requirements, and pre-set line up schedules.

Rest assured that we have reached out directly to each act to personally apologize and make sure that proper reparations are made. We apologize to the Cebuanos for certain impressions that came from hearing about decisions without context but we hope that this clarifies some of the misconceptions on the event.

Our mission always has been to bring Filipino talent avenues and opportunities to flourish and we are going to continue to be doing just that.

Serving as its inaugural edition, Wavy Baby Festival happened over two days, 13-14 January, and featured performances from the likes of BamBam, PinkSweat$, Ben&Ben, December Avenue, Franco, Urbandub, Sunmi, James Reid, SOS, The Rose, and more.
