Jay Som is back with two new singles.

The new music comes after her 2019 release, the critically acclaimed sophomore album, Anak Ko. Last year, the singer-songwriter announced the postponement of her tour to take a mental health break.

'A Thousand Words' and 'Can't Sleep' are now available for online streaming and will be released on 7" vinyl on May 1. Pre-order the record via Polyvinyl here.

In a press release, Melina Duterte talks about the new songs, sharing that, "I forced myself to make a sort of big and jovial song ['A Thousand Words'] to bring me out of the funk I was in. I also wanted to remind myself that music can be fun!"

"I think I had all my gear packed away somewhere that I couldn’t access, so I used instruments left over in my childhood room: a broken acoustic guitar, chopsticks on a snare drum, a bad hi hat, and my trumpet. Everything was recorded through the laptop mic. I was pretty frustrated with the California heat and the fact that I couldn’t record properly, so this sort of fever dream song was born," Duterte adds about 'Can't Sleep'.

Jay Som goes back on tour this 2020, starting in New Zealand this month and wrapping up in L.A. this April. She will also be making a Southeast Asian stop at Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia on March 1, 2020. Get tickets here.
