JC-T 檀健次 is opening up another side of himself with his third solo album.
Released on 28 September, TANGENT sees the Chinese artist expand his role behind the scenes, serving as Executive Producer and Lead Producer for the first time. JC-T was involved across the record's concept, musical direction, and visual expression, marking a move beyond performer into creator and producer.
The release also arrives as one of JC-T's first projects under his newly announced global strategic partnership with Warner Music China, which aims to bring his music to a wider international audience.
Taking its name from the Latin word tangere, meaning "to touch", TANGENT also draws from the mathematical idea of a tangent line. There's a personal connection too: "Tan", the Mandarin romanisation of JC-T's surname 檀, appears within the album's title.
That idea of a circle having countless tangent lines becomes a metaphor for the many sides of a person. Across TANGENT, JC-T explores relationships, encounters, perception, and the gap between how we are seen and who we actually are, tied together by the recurring idea: "WHAT YOU SEE IS NOT THE WHOLE."
Spanning 13 tracks, the album moves between atmospheric pop, R&B influences, rap, and contemporary dance music. It includes previously released tracks 'PROOF' and 'DEAD REFLEX', as well as two focus singles that showcase different sides of the project.
English focus track 'DROP' combines deep house, electronic, and EDM elements, framing attraction as a push-and-pull between two equally matched people. Its explosive chorus turns flirtation and confrontation into a high-energy game of pursuit.
Chinese focus single '别放过', meanwhile, slows things down with piano and atmospheric textures. The pop ballad explores the tension between "101% love" and "100% incompatibility", with JC-T's restrained vocals gradually building towards an emotional release before returning to quiet reflection.
TANGENT follows a busy period for the multi-hyphenate. In August, JC-T starred in crime thriller Empty Gun and won Best Actor at the 21st China Changchun Film Festival's Golden Deer Awards for his performance in Sound of Silence. He also attended FENDI's Spring/Summer 2027 show during Milan Fashion Week in September.
The album's world will also extend beyond streaming. From 29 September to 31 October, TANGENT-themed experiential spaces will open across 11 Chinese cities, using mirrors, listening experiences, and interactive installations to bring its themes of identity, relationships, and perception into physical spaces.
