JYP Entertainment to release environmentally friendly digital albums, launches 'SONG FOR CARE' songwriting competition

JYP Entertainment are making strides to be more environmentally conscious.

Earlier this month, the Korean entertainment powerhouse released their 2021 ESG Report that detailed the company's efforts to further practice social and environmental responsibility over the last year and how it plans to proceed in the future. The report also details the company's ongoing 'Change For The Planet' campaign that ties in with their mission of being leaders in entertainment.

As part of the report, JYP Entertainment shared how they have been continuously conducting activities, both internally and externally, to reduce their environmental impact, including reforming their artists' albums and merchandise.

The company is said to be looking into digital albums rather than physical records in order to reduce environmental pollution, where fans will only be receiving a physical photocard and access everything else (songs, behind-the-scenes content, exclusive photos, and more) digitally. They also plan to reconfigure their physical packaging to minimize waste and harmful emissions.

This year, HYBE also started releasing digital albums for fromis_9, SEVENTEEN, NewJeans, and BTS' j-hope via Weverse Albums.

In terms of artist merchandise, JYP Entertainment plans to utilise eco-friendly materialise and maximise on reusable products. To further achieve, the company is looking to partner with social enterprises and ventures. This comes in addition to the various campaigns and initiatives the company is launching for environmental awareness and sustainability.

JYP Entertainment is also launching a SONG FOR CARE songwriting competition, to look for songs that will inspire the world to implement change for a better future. The winning song will then be sung by one of JYP Entertainment's artists. You can apply for the competition here
