Japanese girl group kiOra have made their debut with their first single, ‘Coco’. The track introduces the group’s self-described “TOKYO HYPER CITY POP” sound, which brings together hyperpop and the melodic elements of city pop.

The accompanying music video received an advance screening at Head In The Clouds Music & Arts Festival in Los Angeles on 8 August, where kiOra watched it alongside the festival audience. It was subsequently released via the group’s official YouTube channel.

Directed by Riku Ozama, the visual draws from Japanese imagery and culture, featuring tatami mats, dry rock gardens, public bathhouses, and a conveyor-belt sushi lane transformed into a fashion runway.

“By mixing familiar Japanese elements like a sushi counter with the unexpected, like a fashion runway, we aimed for iconic visuals that feel familiar yet completely fresh,” Ozama shared.

‘Coco’ features contributions from producers and songwriters her0ism, Yaeji, Mechatok, Kanata Okajima, and Chelsea Warner.

Following their Los Angeles appearance, kiOra are set to make their Thailand debut at Nippon Haku Bangkok on 29 August.
