The ‘Lils’ may not be that lil after all: Spotify has released statistics for artists whose names start with ‘Lil’ or have the word in their names – and there’s a whopping 8,000 of them.

Of the 1,000 most streamed tracks on Spotify, 33 of them are by Lils, with Lil Wayne winning the spot for most streamed Lil rapper of all time. Also on that list are Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty and Lil’ Kim. 

The prefix has become immensely popular among hip-hop artists over the years, with a 106% increase of Lil artists making the top thousand songs over the same time span last year and a jaw-dropping 725% increase from 2016.

While hip-hop artists make up the bulk of Spotify's Top 200 Lil' Artists list, we spotted a couple of non-rapper Lils, such as alternative artist Lil Happy Lil Sad and New Orleans jazz band Lil' Rascals Brass Band. If you're an aspiring artist hoping to call yourself Lil something, this is a good resource to check against.
