It's not often you would see musicians take a big leap between genres, but pop punk band The Summer State's Shaykh Akbar achieves it without latching onto annoyingly derivative tropes.

In 'I Got You', the ethereal R&B single with singer Ffion, Shaykh returns to his producer moniker shaykhandbake, drifting away from the soul and gospel-infused buoyancy of Shaky Wrists, his project with fellow producer Chris Grosse (who was responsible for her debut single 'With U').

shaykhandbake's approach is fairly restrained — drawing out a few melodies with alluring repetition that blends in well with Ffion's substantial vocal presence. It also lends a hand with a dense atmosphere that is carefully layered and devoid of distracting vocal effects. Another sleeper hit for Ffion? Most likely.

But shaykhandbake does a terrific job here and it further serves to highlight Ffion's talent in working with producers without sidelining them — shaykhandbakes does a lot with very little, and pulls through pretty damn nicely.
