Despite stories about EDM's sharp decline in popularity — in particular, the prominence of glitzy EDM-centric festivals — it's clear that it's not the case in Asia, with mainstays like Singapore's ZoukOut and Indonesia's Djakarta Warehouse Project attracting larger crowds than ever, while US festival brand Ultra has instantly graduated into an essential destination for revellers throughout Asia.
In Taiwan, however, they will be welcoming their first homegrown EDM festival that's expected to span multiple stages and days. Presenting LOOPTOPIA, they promise something that's "inspired by other all-encompassing and fully immersive festivals like Mysteryland, Tomorrowland and EDC but with its own unique identity."
But while LOOPTOPIA boasts a hefty amount of popular EDM acts, headed by Martin Garrix along with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, they will also feature acts of different dance sub-genres, like trance (Aly & Fila, Markus Schultz), psytrance (Ben Nicky), and bass music of varying degrees (NGHTMRE, Yellow Claw).
These acts are only part of the first wave of the line-up, with many more acts to be revealed through LOOPTOPIA's official Facebook page. The festival will take place at the spacious and immersive Taoyuan Pushin Ranch on April 8th and 9th, and the venue was secured over three years of planning and scouting by organizers theLOOP.
It's not hard to see why — the place is rich with greenery and ample amenities for festival-goers. It's also surprisingly accessible from central Taipei, and it's only a 10-minute ride from the country's main airport.
Early bird two-day passes are available at US$248 (TWD$7800), and after March 15th (or if they're sold out before then) they'll be priced at US$264 (TWD$8300). If you're feeling fancy, VIP tickets are also available in a limited batch. Tickets are available for purchase here. Sadly, there will not be any one-day passes.
However, if you're a modern dance festival veteran, this line-up alone should keep you hooked. Here's who they've secured so far:
Aly & Fila
Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike
