Tipping their hats to the seemingly endless spiral of unfamiliar emotions is Filipino retro pop band Aviators, who have successfully captured the depth of uncertainty on their single 'Hollow'.
'Hollow' explores the complexities of experiencing raw emotion while capturing the layers of the feeling through the rich musical direction that the track takes on.
One half of the two leading members of Aviators, John Roxas, explains the decisions behind the shift toward a more classic sound with this track as he unpacks, "Emotions are complicated and layered. We took that to heart by creating a production that was a full wall of orchestral sound, allowing us to create a journey in the sections of the song. This [instrumentation] meshed well with the simple and heartfelt songwriting."
He goes on to explain that the reason for the choice of music was to put more emphasis on the allure of the lyrics, since the overall track tries to break down themes that are complicated in nature. The track tackles something so human and natural that most people experience every day — capturing it in a new light on this song.
The idea for 'Hollow' had been in the works for a while after Roxas and his bandmate Arvy Zafra conceptualised the song for a film a friend was working on back in 2022. In 2023, Roxas and RJ Pineda came together to produce the song — as Roxas expresses their excitement that the world can finally listen to the song they've been working on all this time.
With this explorative single that traverses a more orchestral direction, Aviators is definitely strengthening their identity as one of the most versatile breakout bands to watch out for.
