Mark Tuan is letting his playful side shine on ‘NIGHTLIGHT’.
Released on 2 October via Transparent Arts and DNA, the alternative pop track features Thai artist MILLI and serves as the second single from the GOT7 member’s forthcoming album, following ‘Alone’.
Written during a trip to Nashville, ‘NIGHTLIGHT’ pairs Tuan’s vocals and rap with groove-driven production, exploring attraction, curiosity, and the excitement of pursuing what you want. MILLI joins him with a verse that switches between Thai and English.
“I’d been seeing fans ask for more rap, so when I went into the session in Nashville, I really wanted to play around with that side of myself,” Tuan shares. “After ‘Alone,’ which was more introspective and focused on feeling closed off, I wanted ‘NIGHTLIGHT’ to feel like a shift: more open, playful and in motion.”
The collaboration also took the song in an unexpected direction for Tuan, whose solo catalogue has featured relatively few guest artists.
“When she sent her verse back, it was completely different from what I had imagined, but in the best way,” he says of MILLI’s contribution. “It opened up a whole new set of ideas for the song, even visually.”
“Hearing Thai and English alongside each other also made the record feel bigger and more dynamic. It became something neither of us would have made on our own.”
