LISA is many things. She's a fashion icon, a K-pop superstar and beloved member of BLACKPINK. But today, she adds Hollywood actress to her impressive list of accomplishments with the premiere of The White Lotus season three on HBO and Max.
In the critcally accalimed anthology series, Lalisa Manoban plays Mook, a health mentor for guests of White Lotus Thailand, and occasional performer during the resort's. Beyond work, Mook finds herself in a very flirty friendship with one of the resort's security guards, Gaitok, played Tayme Thapthimthong.
In an interview with Variety, LISA said that Mook was a lot like her, but that the character is "flirtier and lady-like", a contrast to her self-professed identity as "a tomboy". The rookie thespian also admitted that she was extremely anxious during the first day of shooting, "I'm so nervous; I was sweating. I was like, 'I can't remember my lines. I'm blanked!'"
Despite the nerves, her acting debut in a supporting role is instantly winsome, while her chemistry with Thapthimthong is palpable.
LISA has been also been credited by her scene partner for helping him speak Thai. As a native Thai, the multilingual singer and often helped Thapthimthong as Thai is his second language. Seeing as the character of Gaitok has never left Ko Samui, "his Thai has to be very local and authentic — she was a great help," Thapthimthong told Variety. "I started doing the lines in how I normally speak Thai, and they're like, 'LISA, can you help?'"
Her acting skills and personality seemed to have won over her co-stars. "LISA was so social. Like she's so cool. She would invite people over for drinks at her house, like her little hotel room the whole time. She's really, really down-to-earth," Aimee Lou Wood share in an interview with ScreenRant.
In the same interview, Michelle Monaghan revealed that she couldn't believe how good LISA was a first-time actor, "I had no idea that this was her first acting job. I started watching the episodes and then somebody said it to me in the previous interviews, and I was like, you're kidding me. She's so incredible. She and Tayme are so beautiful. I love that storyline so much.
Given her impressive performance here, LISA has expressed that she wants to continue acting, hopefully in an action film. "I don't get camera-shy. It was natural to be in front of the camera," she told Variety. "But of course, I think it's a huge difference between being a singer and being an actor. There's still so much stuff that I have to learn about this acting world trip. I'm a dancer and a performer, so I think I can go through all the routines, and do an action movie."
