Muse announce new album, release new single 'The Dark Side' – listen

Muse have announced their highly anticipated follow-up to 2015's Drones.

The band's upcoming eighth studio album Simulation Theory will be released on all platforms on 9 November. It features previously released singles 'Dig Down', 'Thought Contagion' and 'Something Human'. The band's brand new single 'The Dark Side' will also be included in the album.

'The Dark Side' builds upon the sci-fi and electronic-inspired sounds that came with its predecessors 'Thought Contagion' and 'Something Human', turning the dial to 11. The song is definitely the strongest of the four and features a ton of things we've come to love about the band, from catchy hooks to lead singer Matt Bellamy's occasionally operatic vocals. The song features heavy usage of keys and synths and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Sure it might be a little far removed from the earlier days of all-out rock songs like 'Plug In Baby' and 'Time Is Running Out' but 'The Dark Side' is still patently Muse, with a slight throwback feel to their Origin Of Symmetry and Absolution days.
