Ken Lim has been sentenced to 13 months’ jail on 18 November after being found guilty of molesting a 25-year-old woman during a job interview at his Hype Records office.

The incident took place on November 2021, when the woman met Lim for a third interview. During the session, he asked her to kiss him, then demanded she do so again “with more passion” before groping her.

The court ruled that Lim had exploited his position as interviewer, noting that the victim had trusted him because of his status in the industry and his role in Singapore Idol.

In delivering the sentence, the judge said the victim had been a credible witness who gave clear and consistent testimony, while Lim was found to have been untruthful.

The court also highlighted the clear power imbalance and Lim’s lack of remorse as aggravating factors. While Lim originally faced multiple charges involving several women, the remaining charges were withdrawn after the conviction.

Lim’s defence argued for a shorter sentence, emphasising his contributions to Singapore’s music landscape, but the court maintained that his position of authority made the offence more serious. He is currently out on bail pending appeal.
