On 2 March, the household video-streaming platform Netflix announced their plan to acquire Next Games and "build a portfolio of world-class games that will delight our members around the world".
Expressing the platform's desire to expand their demographic to the gaming community, Michael Verdu, Vice President of Games of Netflix, states Next Games' "seasoned management team, strong track record with mobile games...and solid operational capabilities" as some of the push factors to the entering of this agreement.
This comes after the two companies' collaboration on the Stranger Things role-playing game Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales which was released in 2021. With this new partnership, viewers can expect more their television-and-film-series-related games.
The agreement is slated to close during the second quarter of 2022 with the timeline matching up with the highly-awaited release of Stranger Things 4 that will premiere this 27 May.

So far, Netflix Games is still actively expanding itself into the gaming community with its recent plans to add 3 games to their current 14 on the platform. Some of these include Asphalt Xtreme, Teeter (Up) and Stranger Things: 1984, both of which are the site's most popular games currently.
Teemu Huuhtanen, Chief Executive Officer at Next Games also communicated his excitement for this partnership and called it "a unique opportunity to level-up the studio on all fronts".
