Oliver Tree, the alt-pop musician and internet personality has died following a helicopter collision in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was 32.

According to local authorities, the crash took place on 15 June while the American artist was travelling between tour stops in Brazil. Six people were reported dead after two helicopters collided mid-air, with one aircraft crashing into a dealership car park and igniting multiple vehicles.

An investigation into the cause of the collision is currently underway.

Born Oliver Tree Nickell in Santa Cruz, California, Tree first gained widespread attention in 2016 after his music and distinctive online persona went viral across social media. Known for his signature bowl haircut and genre-blending approach to pop, alternative, and electronic music, he built a global fanbase through releases such as 'Alien Boy', 'Life Goes On', and 'Miss You'.

The singer had recently launched a new world tour, with his latest performance taking place in São Paulo on 6 June. Upcoming dates had been scheduled across Portugal and the UK later this year.

In addition to his music career, Tree was known for his larger-than-life stunts and internet antics. In 2020, he earned a Guinness World Record for building the world's largest kick scooter. He was also nominated for a Brit Award in 2024 for 'Miss You', his collaboration with German producer Robin Schulz.
