Masonolay i Cepo’ is more than just a third album for Taiwanese Amis rock trio Outlet Drift—it’s a spiritual homecoming. Meaning “drifting at the river mouth” in the Amis language, the self-titled album retraces the band’s cultural lineage while pushing their tribal rock sound into new, boundary-breaking territory.

The 10-track release blends psychedelic rock, experimental textures, and funk grooves with ancestral Amis melodies, recorded entirely outdoors in sync with Taiwan’s natural landscape. The result? A hypnotic soundscape that’s as raw and reverent as it is urgent and alive.

Opening with the ritualistic ‘Masa’opo (Youth’s Gathering)’ and closing with the meditative ‘Sakasinanot (Song of Peace)’, the album flows like a river—each track a tributary of emotion, memory, and resistance. Highlights include:

  • ‘Komaen Ti’ ti’ (Song of Martial Law)’ – a haunting reinterpretation of a forbidden folk tale from the Cilafinan Tribe during Taiwan’s authoritarian past.

  • ‘O Fades (Karma)’ – a multilingual meditation on emotional extremes, cycling between joy and sorrow like waves at sea.

  • ‘Lotong (The Monkey)’ – a sly parable of power and rebellion told through a monkey kingdom in the forest.

Fresh off stages at Colours of Ostrava, SXSW Sydney, and Baybeats, the trio’s global energy remains grounded in local soul. With Masonolay i Cepo’, they’ve crafted a “new tradition”—reclaiming Indigenous language and ritual not as relics, but as living, sonic forces that drift beyond borders.
