QWER aren’t just an idol rock band — they’re building their own harmony

As QWER prepare for their first-ever performance in Singapore, the four-member act are standing at a pivotal moment. What started as a bold blend of idol polish and band energy has grown into something harder to label — and more exciting to watch unfold.

Fresh off the global run of their ROCKATION world tour and the release of their third mini album, In a million noises, I’ll be your harmony, QWER are no longer just rising — they’re defining themselves in real time. From sharing the making of ‘Youth Promise’ to celebrating a triple crown during ‘My Name is Malguem’ promotions, CHODAN, MAGENTA, HINA and SIYEON look back on their journey — and ahead to their Singapore debut.

You’ve been described as an idol rock band — how do you define QWER’s identity in your own words?

CHODAN: We see it positively that people view QWER from many different perspectives. It’s hard to define us with just one label — idol, rock, and band are all part of who we are. Moving forward, we hope to show even more diverse sides of ourselves.

MAGENTA: As a band, we have strength in live performance, but with songs like ‘Discord’ and ‘T.B.H’, we also take part in dance challenges. Being able to present a wide variety of content to fans might be what defines our identity.

Tracks like ‘T.B.H’ and ‘My Name is Malguem’ helped cement your rise. Looking back, what did those songs teach you about your audience?

HINA: After releasing ‘T.B.H’, we performed at many shows across the country. Our schedules were hectic, but the cheers and support from fans gave us incredible strength on stage and made us want to work even harder for them.

SIYEON: During promotions for ‘My Name is Malguem’, we achieved a triple crown on Korean music shows. At the time, we had another schedule, so when we first heard the news, we honestly thought it wasn’t real. We’re deeply grateful and believe it was all thanks to the love from our fans.

How do the four of you divide roles creatively?

CHODAN: Last year, we shared the process of creating our self-composed track ‘Youth Promise’ on YouTube. Just like the phrase “our chaotic self-composed song project,” all the members were fully immersed in the process.

MAGENTA: As you can see in the video, we don’t really divide roles — we all try to bring different and fun ideas to the table.

HINA: Our producer and each member’s instrument and vocal teachers also help us grow musically.

SIYEON: Since our schedules are busy, we often share ideas during short breaks while traveling between performances — and sometimes great ideas come from those moments.

If you had to pick one track that best represents who QWER are right now, which would it be and why?

CHODAN: I would definitely say ‘T.B.H’! It introduced us to the world in a big way, and many people discovered us through this song.

MAGENTA: I’d choose our debut track ‘Discord’. Since it means “dissonance,” it perfectly reflects our team’s identity when we were first formed.

In a million noises, I’ll be your harmony was fantastic! Compared to MANITO and Algorithm’s Blossom, how do you think your sound has evolved on this third mini album?

HINA: Our third mini album is themed around a full day of a concert — from preparation to the end. Because it reflects our real experiences, both the lyrics and emotions feel more honest.

SIYEON: It includes styles we hadn’t shown before, like ‘OVERDRIVE’, and also ‘Yours Sincerely’, a song created together for our fans — which makes the album even more special.

ROCKATION is a play on “ROCK” and “VACATION”. What does your ideal rock vacation entail?

CHODAN: In our tour VCR, there’s a line that says, “Seeing your favorite people and hearing your favorite music in a place you love — isn’t that the best kind of trip?” Even if it’s not extravagant, spending time with loved ones anywhere would be the perfect vacation.

You’ve been all around the globe on this world tour. What’s something you’ve learned about your music from playing it for audiences outside Korea?

MAGENTA: We were surprised to see that the songs receiving the most enthusiastic responses from our setlist were different in each city. It made us realize how much we want to meet fans with an even wider variety of music.

When one member is tired or doubtful on tour, how does the band support one another?

HINA: Touring can suddenly become physically exhausting. When that happens, we gather together and enjoy local food — it’s our way of relieving stress and supporting each other.

What are your thoughts about your upcoming debut show in Singapore?

SIYEON: Since it’s both our first time performing in Singapore and the final stop of the ROCKATION tour, we want to present a more mature performance. We’re preparing a lot, and we hope Singapore fans will enjoy it with us!

Finally, what are QWER’s plans for the rest of 2026?

CHODAN: Through the ROCKATION world tour, we met many fans, but there are still cities we haven’t visited. We want to reach those places and perform for the fans waiting for us.

MAGENTA: Beyond being known as a “growth-type band,” we aim to show a more mature artist side of ourselves.

HINA: And of course, new albums! As a new chapter begins for QWER, we plan to come back with even more diverse music.

SIYEON: We’re also preparing many exciting things we haven’t tried before this year — please look forward to it!
