RADWIMPS release soundtrack for Japanese film ‘The Last 10 Years’: “I was still in tears as I watched it on screen”

KKBox Japan unveils Japanese rock band RADWIMPS' official soundtrack for the heart-wrenching film The Last 10 Years

Following being a part of widely-popular animated films Kimi no Na wa (Your Name) and Tenko no Ko (Weathering with You), this release mark not just RADWIMPS’ third time directing the OSTs of a film but also the first time that they’ve done this for a live-action movie.

Noda Yojiro, vocalist and guitarist of RADWIMPS, felt it was a "new and challenging experience" for him, where he initially was at a loss on how to approach the musical orchestration for the film.

The Last 10 Years follows a 20-year-old woman named Matsuri, played by Komatsu Nana, who vows never to fall in love, after learning that she has only 10 years left to live due to an incurable disease that she has. However, after her fateful encounter with Kazuto, played by Sakaguchi Kentaro, a man who no longer has the will to live, the pair become entangled in a doomed love affair. The film is based on Kosaka Ruka’s novel of the same name.

The soundtrack played a big part for the actors and crew alike to capture the essence of the film’s vision. Fuiji Michihito, the director of The Last 10 Years, recalls that the "filming proceeded while the cast listened to his music".
