Filipino rappers Nateman and Baby Blood spit slicing verses on a minimalist and incredibly groovy beat by producer Yung Bawal on their long-awaited single 'PUSO AT ISIP'.
Each lyric cuts with the strength to push listeners off the edge and take that leap from desire to action as it asks the question, "Do we follow the quiet pull of peace or dive headlong into the risks of adventurous love?" It allows listeners to reflect on why they allow hesitation and uncertainty to stand in the way of love. The catchy tune is a gift that keeps giving as it keeps fans craving the beat long after their first listen of the track.
Nateman reflects on the process behind the collaboration as he shares, “This song really came out of nowhere, from pure feeling and soul.” Baby Blood echoes this sentiment as he adds, “We’re proud of the outcome. The chemistry is undeniable, but each one of us brought a different level of craftsmanship and energy that made everything coherent without necessarily taking away our individuality.”
The lyrics make it extremely apparent that the brothers harnessed their raw emotion — shaping it into verses that radiate wit and intimacy. The mastermind behind the music and beats of the song, Yung Bawal, shares his experience with the collaboration as he states, "I first worked with Nateman on a remix earlier this year and loved the energy. He brought Baby Blood into the session, who I only later found out was his younger brother. The track just flowed from there.”
The conceptualisation of the tune was done with meticulous effort by Yung Bawal as he did his best to ensure that it aligned perfectly with the musical individuality of both artists — blending it to get a perfect mix of both Nateman and Baby Blood. “I never have a library of beats for artists, as all my beats are made specifically for who I'm working with; hence, all of my releases sound different from each other depending on whom I'm working with,” he expresses.
The music video that goes in tandem with 'PUSO AT ISIP' has shaped up to be extremely unique. Yung Bawal describes the video as a telenovela-style project with an incredibly captivating plot. The video sees Nateman and Baby Blood singing in the middle of a crowd at a mansion party and features stunning visuals of them as they walk down grandiose stairs, all while Nateman tries to win over a girl.
Nateman even joked around about how it made them feel like lead stars of their own drama shows. “Ang guwapo-guwapo namin dun (we look good).” That's not all, the video also features an appearance by Filipina social media personality Christine Samson.
With its razor-sharp lyricism, soulful energy, and cinematic storytelling, 'PUSO AT ISIP' is more than just a single. It not only showcases their chemistry but also hints at an exciting new chapter for Filipino hip-hop.
