Rapper Rayi Putra puts on his dancing shoes for his newest single ‘MataMata’.
Taking a different route from his usual persona as a rapper, Rayi Putra’s New Year's resolution for 2022 was to be a triple threat – to be skilled in rapping, singing, and dancing. In efforts to reach his new goals, he took dancing lessons from popular dancer-choreographer Ufa Sofura.

His new R&B track ‘MataMata’ fell into place easily among the grand scheme of things and the demo was described by the Indonesian artist as “the right solo material for [him] to dance to”.
This release’s music video showcases the rapper’s hard-earned dancing skills in a backdrop of vibrant colours and dynamic visuals, confirming its position as one of the most distinct productions he has ever worked on. Donned in a 007-suit, Rayi Putra parallels the themes of the song and its lyrics in his music video, by comparing the online ‘stalking’ of crushes on social media to undercover spy work.

The fun sketch and witty lyricism solidify the rapper’s ability to transcend genres and concepts. “So far, I am very happy with the exploration process and the results of MataMata project.” He says, “Hopefully, this can be a nice pivot, a nice blueprint for my future solo project.”
