Red Velvet are back just in time for the season with the release of their new mini album, Velvet Summer, alongside the music video for its breezy title track, 'Surfin' Boy'.
Velvet Summer marks the group's first full-group comeback since 2024's Cosmic. The five-track record sees Red Velvet embrace a softer, more mature take on their signature summer sound, weaving together bossa nova, reggae, dance-pop, classical, and acoustic influences while highlighting the quintet's signature versatility.
Leading the release is 'Surfin' Boy', a laid-back dance-pop track built around mellow bossa nova guitar, relaxed reggae rhythms, and a polished house groove. Paired with the group's dreamy harmonies, the song captures the carefree feeling of drifting across the ocean on a sunny day. JOY also penned the lyrics for both 'Surfin' Boy' and album track 'Hawaii', adding a personal touch to the mini album.
Ahead of the release, Red Velvet reunited with fans at the sold-out 2026 Red Velvet FAN-CON, held from 31 July to 2 August at Korea University's Hwajeong Gymnasium in Seoul. Fans were treated to the first live performances of both 'Surfin' Boy' and 'Hula Hoop' before the album officially dropped.
Known for beloved seasonal hits including 'Red Flavor', 'Power Up', 'Umpah Umpah', and 'Queendom', Red Velvet continue to expand their legacy as one of K-pop's defining summer acts. With Velvet Summer, the group revisits the bright energy fans know and love while introducing a more refined and understated sonic palette.
