LISTEN: Singapore-based rapper REQ infuses his grime upbringing with newfound Asian roots on debut EP

We often see Singaporean artists trying to break into Western markets but its pretty rare to see it go the other way around. But as with everything he does, UK-born rapper REQ is a pretty special case.

Now based in Singapore, the young MC is looking to bring his unique, cross-continental brand of grime to our shores with his sterling debut EP Against All Odds.

Although he's already popped up onto our radar last year with strong 2016 singles such as 'Bless' and 'Badman', this five-track offering is his most compelling and cohesive document to date.

Watch the music video for lead single 'Know Me Like That', shot in rural Philippines, where REQ was doing charity work in late 2016.

Produced by the head of AOR Studios, Shorya Sharma, the EP is a well-balanced mixture of hard-hitting bangers and lyrically-driven narrative songs - ably showcasing REQ's capabilities as an introspective storyteller and pop performer.

As REQ himself explains, "Against All Odds has been a long time coming, I’m hoping to take listeners on a journey through the five songs and feel something different through every track.”
