Sailor Moon-inspired girl group SG5 to debut this July

SG5 are making their grand debut.

Comprising SAYAKA, RURI, RUI, MIYUU, and KAEDE, the new girl group was made in collaboration with and take after the anime classic Sailor Moon. SG5 will be making their debut at Los Angeles' Anime Expo this coming weekend with two live performances and a meet-and-greet.

SG5 are said to be a modern interpolation of Sailor Moon and are described to be an "intergalactic pop supergroup" that's determined to destroy forces of evil with their music. Taking on the decades-long lore behind the anime, the members will be referencing the series' main protagonists.

"Being able to collaborate with Sailor Moon is such an honour and a dream come true. I have experienced a lot as an artist in Japan, but the environment surrounding SG5 is like no other, so I’m very motivated. I hope we can show the beauty of Japanese culture through our entertainment," said MIYUU in an interview with Rolling Stone

SAYAKA, RURI, MIYUU, and KAEDE all used to be part of the J-pop girl group Happiness, while RUI came from the group iScream.
